Pros & Cons after 3,000+ miles of use

We purchased this cargo bag to put on our Buick Enclave for a 3,000+ mile roadtrip around the US. Overall, highly recommend.

PROS
* Installation: easy to install - not a lot of fussing with straps or re-situating. Recommend purchasing with mat (ROOF CARGO BAG PROTECTIVE MAT for Car Roof Storage Bags with EXTRA PADDING and GRIP Place the car roof mat under any rooftop cargo bag TOP UNIVERSAL ROOF RACK PAD for PROTECTION from Car Roof Racks
* Really is WATERPROOF. We drove through driving rain, and as long as you follow the installation instructions and protect the zippered area with the covering flap, your stuff will be dry.
* It holds A LOT. We fit 2 children's suitcases, 1 large duffle bag, a Pack-n-Play, and assorted other small bags in with no problem at all. It almost completely freed up the entire back of our car.
* Quiet - no problem with road noise.
CONS
* Security - It's zippered closed with two pretty small zipper pulls, and they give you this tiny little lock to put through the zipper pulls, but it wouldn't be hard for someone to break into it, so we unloaded it each time we stopped for the night. Not a deal breaker, considering that this item is $60 and the hardshell ones are $600, but still a bit inconvienent.
* Wear and Tear - After 3,000+ miles we did notice small tears starting to develop along the front edge of the carrier. It still has good life left, but if we did another big trip that'd probably be the end. Again, not bad for $60.
* Car handling/gas mileage - May affect car's handling and gas mileage. When I was driving, it felt to me as though, particularly at high speeds or in high winds, the cartop carrier was affecting handling. This would be true of anything you put on top of your car, but maybe the sleeker hardtop carriers are more aerodynamic?
Overall highly recommend. When this one wears out, we'll definitely get another.

Drove over 2800 miles, no issue. WITHOUT RAILS/BARS.

My girlfriend and I recently relocated from NYC to LA. We downsized as much as necessary and packed the rest of our lives into our 06 Mazda3 hatchback and began heading West. Not gonna lie, I was quite skeptical whether or not this thing will last a trip over 2800 miles since there were a handful of reviews mentioned that their bag ripped on a trip around 500 or 800 miles. Boy, did Keeper prove me extra WRONG.
To say we were impressed was an understatement. I would say our trip probably put this Keeper to the ultimate test and it passed all without a single scratch. The first obstacle for our Keeper was that our Mazda3 does NOT have sidebars or any rooftop rails, nor did I install any removable or inflatable crossbars. I simply used 2 ratchet straps and looped the front straps into the sunroof and zoom-zoom'ed to the West ;)
What we loaded on top or our car were all clothes packed in vacuumed bags. I'd say the Keeper was about 80% packed and all of our cloths weighed around 100~130lb. The second obstacle was weather, which many have complained. Getting things soaked didn't really bother us since the clothes were all vacuumed sealed but we were worried that water might add extra weight if it's trapped inside. Now if it doesn't rain much, whatever, but the majority of the trip it was raining. In fact, the rain started since the day we left NYC. A few days we were even driving in pouring storms for a few hours. Surprisingly, not a single drop of water was found at the end of the trip. The ONE little inconvenience we had was that water would occasionally drip into the car when it rained very hard because the straps were linked into the vehicle, but that's only because we didn't have sidebars or rails to tie it.
After 7 days, 2800+ miles, hot days around 100, pouring rains, and driving average at 65-70mph, Keeper arrived in Los Angeles with no scratch but dead bugs in the front. Total cost of my setup? $50 for the carrier and ~$15 for 2 1200lb rated ratchet cargo straps. I must say this thing really REALLY lived the hell out of its expectation. Did its job WAY above and beyond. Thank you Keeper.
